Axel Strauss qualified for the “Route du Rhum-La Banque Postale 2010
Axel Strauss, German Swiss skipper finished his qualifier for the mythical “Route du Rhum-La Banque Postale 2010” in the morning of 13th July at Cherbourg.
1100 Miles single-handed on his race proven Class 40 “Tzu Hang”, sailed from Cherbourg with a big loop into the Bay of Biscay back towards Cherbourg, were a good and valuable training run for the big event in autumn.
Before the start of the race, Axel will sail another two or three single handed passages of one week to ten days as preparation and do training sessions with other Normandy based Class 40’s in September. After a quick technical stop at his base a V1D2 shipyard in Caen, the next training run is scheduled from 19th-29th July.
Axel Strauss supports “OceanCare”, a Swiss non-profit organisation founded in 1989. OceanCare has a strong commitment to realistic and cooperative initiatives. The association works at national and international level in the areas of whaling, industrial fishing, environmental changes, seal hunting and dolphin captivity.

"We are working hard preparing the boat on the water and 3 new sails in my sail loft “Andrea Mura sail design”. At the end of august we will take the boat out of the water to paint the fluo orange antifouling on the rudder and the keel. The 10 of September we will have national press conference in cagliari – Sardinia. Immediately after the press conference I will depart from Cagliari to Saint-Malo. About 2.000 mile alone to make training and qualification. I should sailing for about 15 days. Arrive in Saint-Malo on 25° just on time for the press conference in Paris on 28 September".
After setting out from Lorient, Groupama 3's port of registry, on Wednesday 7th July, to perform the qualifier for the Route du Rhum, Franck Cammas made it back to port on the evening of Sunday 11th.
